OUR TEAM

Roy Hunter, AOSE and Owner

Roy is a Virginia native who has always had an interest in geology and biology.  He received a biology degree from the Virginia Military Institute in 2011 and became an environmental health specialist for the central health district.  After that, Roy worked for several environmental and soil consulting firms learning soil science and wetland science across the state of Virginia.

He established Hunter Drainfield Design (HDD) to culminate his experiences towards assisting each client to comfortably navigate their septic-related needs. 

Matthew Smith
​Assistant Soil Scientist

Matthew graduated from Virginia Tech in 2024 with a bachelor's in Environmental Horticulture.  Matthew was on the soil judging team his junior and senior year and placed second nationally in 2024.  He is excited to start working as an Assistant Soil Scientist with Hunter Drainfield Design and to put his knowledge into practice.
